Mount Emei is situated on the southwestern edge of the Sichuan Basin ranging more than 200km,The landscape there is beau tiful and many claim it is "the most beautiful place in the world",There is a difference in elevation of 2,600 meters,allowing many dif-ferent types of animals and vegetation to flourish.
Mount Emei is one f the well-known mountains for Buddhism in China.There were over I70 temples on the mountain during the most prosperous period,and 29 still remain,including the most famous Baoguo Temple and Wannian Temple.
Leshan Giant Buddha refers to the huge statue of Buddha sitting on Lingyunshan Mountain east of Mount Emei.The carving began in 7I3AD,and the work lasted for 90years.Leshan Giant Buddha is 7Imeters high,and its instep alone can seat more than a hundred persons.It is the largest existent statue in the world to be carved from a cliff. |
