趙梅生，1925年生。八旬畫叟，無師自勉，晝無定法。早年加入中國美術家協會，曾創辦太
原畫院，任副院長職。任教五十餘載，參與國家師範美術教科書編寫。前半生苦練筆墨基本功．後
半生潜心丹青作畫。擅中國畫，花鳥尤佳。出筆爽速，潑灑豪放。有的抒情，有的寓意，有的重生
活情趣，有的偏于形式意味。技巧嫻熟，畫韵獨具。步履祖國山河大川，出行歐、美、亞諸國訪問
辦展。
平生畫業，求新不止，素以“每曰從零開始”、“哪怕終生只邁出半步”激勵自己。“寧探索失
敗，不守舊成功”、“筆墨當隨時代，不食古人殘羹”為座右銘，人老畫新，不落舊窠。作品合拍時
代脉搏，洋溢清新氣息，得到同道公允。出版有《中國近現代名家畫集——趙梅生》及多種專題畫
集。屢參大展、個展、聯展、巡展、外展等，2007年應中國文聯、中國美協特邀參加“同一個世
界中國畫家彩繪聯合國大家庭藝術大展”。作品多次獲獎，並被中國美術館、故宮博物院、中南海，
中國港臺及國外等專業機構收藏。2005年國家科學技術獎勵大會授予“優秀人民藝術家”稱號。係
全國教育系統勞動模範。
Zhao Meisheng, born in 1925, is an eighty-year-old self-taught painter of flexible style. He joined China
Artist Association at an early age and established Taiyuan Painting Academy where he worked as vice-
president. Engaged in education for over fifty years, he was one of the editors of art textbooks for normal
universities in China. During the first forty years of his life, he took patient toils to improve the fundamental
painting skills and in the rest years, he focused on his own creation of paintings. He is proficient in traditional
Chinese Paintings, especially flower-and-bird paintings. His paintings, resolute and bold in style, take on
various looks, for some of them are lyric or thought-provoking while others are vivid reflections of daily life
or formal art. He has developed his unique skills and spirit in his paintings. He has visited a great number
of wonderful sites in China and many countries in Europe, America and Asia where his paintings were
exhibited.
He has never ceased to renovate his paintings and he always motivates himself with "start afresh every
day" and "half one step ahead is worthy of life-long endeavour". His mottos include "Failure of exploration
is of greater value than success of keeping cliche!", "Paintings should be up-to-date rather than the imitation
of the predecessors!" His paintings are always renewed despite his senior age. Generally accepted and
praised by his colleagues, his paintings are compatible with the pulse of time and filled with air of animation.
His publications include Zhao Meisheng-A Collection of Modern and Contemporary Famous Painters in
China and a variety of special collections of paintings. He has participated in many exhibitions such as
general exhibition, personal exhibition, joint exhibition, itinerant exhibition and exhibition in foreign countries.
Invited by China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and China Artist Association in 2007, he took part
in" The One World-UN Family Art Exhibition of Colored Paintings by Chinese Painters". He won various
prizes and his paintings are collected by Chinese Art Museum, Palace Museum, Zhongnanhai and different
professional institutions in Hong Kong, Taiwan and foreign countries. He was granted the title of Excellent
