We also both had Apple's Smart Cover, or at least we did until my girlfriend's cats played with her iPad and apparently lost the cover under a sofa or something. So I gave her mine and bought a Belkin sleeve ($10 on Amazon), which I like except that it isn't really functional during actual use of the iPad. I discovered the AmazonBasics portfolio cover quite by accident. It was immediately obvious that it followed the same design as the portfolio cover I use on my Fire. It was also obvious that the $18 Prime price was too low (and will probably be raised soon to $25-30). So I did what any bargain hunter would do, checked the Amazon Warehouse, and bought one that was "Used--Very Good" (it was essentially new) for $13. My girlfriend took one look at this cover and made me buy a second one for her. I guess that means the cats now have another Smart Cover to play with. Don't get me wrong...the Smart Cover can seem very nifty (albeit pretty overpriced), but the AmazonBasics portfolio offers much better protection and is a much better way to carry an iPad around. As I said, the design is essentially the same as the AmazonBasics Fire portfolio. That gets some pretty positive reviews, and I personally regard this particular portfolio to be better than the Fire version. But here are some specifics: 1. Both the Fire version and the iPad version require the user to slip the tablet under elastic straps at each corner. This is somewhat difficult with the Fire because of its thickness. It's a much easier process for the iPad2. 2. Both allow the user to use the cover as a stand. This is easy and quite functional in both cases. 3. Both use a textured leather exterior with what seems like a microfiber interior. The leather is more like brown on the Fire. The iPad version is closer to true black. Both look elegant. Both look more like something you would see in an office than the Smart Covers we've had. 4. It's not really possible to fold the cover back on the Fire version and have it flatten out. The cover for the iPad works better in this respect although the Apple cover is the best at this. 5. When the cover is closed on the Fire version, it has a tendency to pop up because of the Fire's thickness. Amazon has a lengthwise elastic band designed in so the cover will completely close on the Fire. This same band is also on this cover, but the cover closes pretty well without it. For this version, the band is really just insurance for when you're walking around with your iPad. If you drop it, the cover will stay closed. 6. This particular portfolio cover blocks the rear-facing iPad camera but not the front-facing camera. Neither my girlfriend or I have used the iPad2 cameras a single time in the past year, so we don't care about this. If we do use one of the cameras, it will be the front-facing one, for FaceTime. 7. One of the elastic bands covers the iPad2 power button but can be easily shifted to the side if you need to press this button. I use this button once every 3-4 months because the iPad'2's power management routines really make it unnecessary except for reboots. Others may differ with me on the significance of this point. 8. Another of the elastic bands partially blocks the iPad2's headphone port. Headphones can still be used, but I find it necessary to shift the band enough to plug in the phones. Then it can be slid right back into place. This isn't inconvenient enough for me to downgrade my rating. 9. The iPad2 hardware volume control is not covered up, but it is a bit more difficult to reach. How difficult depends on how dexterous and big your fingers are. Since I prefer software controls over hardware controls (a la the Fire), this is not really an issue for me. But it might be for you. In my opinion, this is an excellent product at an extremely attractive price. Whether it works really well depends a bit on your specific circumstances, in which case I hope my more detailed points prove useful. But for me, anyway, this was a great choice. My girlfriend agrees. I'm not sure about the cats. By nonpareil I don't know how a protective case could be much thinner. (Unless it were rigid plastic, in which case it probably wouldn't have the stand feature.) It is just an inch thick, iPad included. The leather exterior is what we used to call "Morocco" leather, a finish that lends durability to a thin layer. The interior is a darker gray crushed velvet-looking material. Most attractive. As you can see, there are corner velcro/elastics to hold the iPad, a well-designed set of indentations so that you can choose the angle at which to have your machine held, and another elastic band on the outside that you flip over to hold the case shut for transport or storage. I have been consistently happy with Amazon Basics offerings (and the logo on this one is more subtle - just embossed into the leather) and this is no exception. 查看所有美国亚马逊网站上客户的评论 |
