| This collection of contemporary art, created by Giuseppe Panza di Biumo in forty-five years of passionate exploration and vigorous contact with museums, galleries and spaces dedicated to contemporary artistic creativity, is one of the most well-documented and important collections of works from the last decades of the twentieth century. This book illustrates through typologies and "schools of thought" the collection held at Villa Menafoglio at Biumo Superiore: from Minimalist art, represented by Dan Flavin, Conceptual art by Ian Wilson, and Environmental art of Turell, Irwin and Nordman, to works exploring color by Roeth, Fredenthal, Simpson, Sims, Spalletti and Arends, and the "vital form" with examples by Graham, Kiecol, Puryear, and Highstein, as well as Max Cole, Meg Webster and Ford Beckman. The final part of the work gives an account of the history of the collection, of loans to important Italian museums and of exhibitions organized by the collector and held in the contemporary art museums of Los Angeles, Madrid and Bilbao. |
