
| Timothy Hyman is an English painter and writer who has visited India often over the past twenty years. He first met Bhupen Khakhar in 1976, and has since come to know many of his contemporaries in the Indian painting scene. He was a visiting professor at Baroda in 1981 and 1983, and became deeply involved in the wider project of the painters known as "The Baroda School". He has lectured (for the British Council) in most parts of the subcontinent. He has published several essays on contemporary Indian art. Trained atThe Slade School of Fine Art, London, his work is in many British public collections (including the Arts Council, the British Museum, the Contemporary Art Society, the Museum of London, and the Government Art Collection). He has exhibited widely in Britain, as well as in Bombay and Ahmedabad. Timothy Hyman has contributed frequently on twentieth century art to The Times Literary Supplement, London Magazine, Artscribe, and Modern Painters. In 1998 Thames and Hudson published his monograph on Bonnard. He has also taught and lectured at many universities, art schools and museums throughout the UK, including the RCA, The Slade, and The Tate Gallery. He is currently writing (for Thames andHudson) a book on Sienese Painting. He lives in London with his wife Judith. |
