　　新的《英语课程标准》指出，传统的课程资源已经不能满足当今外语教学的需要，应该积极开发和有效合理利用多种课程资源。而阅渎是理解和吸收书面信息的手段，它有助于扩大词汇量．丰富语言知识，了解英语国家的社会和文化。
　　在现行的各种教材中，由于受到篇幅、体裁、题材和体例等方面的约束和限制，选取的文章内容往往只注重典型和规范，而在丰富性和多样性方面存在较大的缺陷；从教材包含的容量来看。要达到《英语课程标准》规定的词汇量也是不够的，这就严重制约了学生阅读能力的发展。?了帮助小学生不斯提高自己的英语阅读能力，我们组织了一批富有教学经验的一线骨干教师编写了这套《小学英语同步阅读训练80篇》。
　　该丛书按年级分册，每册内容的深度相当或略深于教材，内容丰富。编者在编写时还注意文章的教育性、知识性、科学性和趣味性相统一。难度和篇幅均由浅人深，循序渐进；为方便学生阅读，书中配备了词汇表，每篇文章均配有插图，以帮助读者提高阅读兴趣。
