All I wanted to do was make her laugh. For weeks, my wife, Harper, had been throwing herself at the Obama campaign. She was making calls to voters all over the map and donating as much time and money to the campaign as she could afford. She was watching his speeches on YouTube. She was reading his policy papers and position statements, and taking pages of notes on each. By late January, Barack Obama had become her singular topic of conversation. Now Harper is obsessive. Unlike me, she has an ability to not only focus on something with laser-like accuracy, but also sustain that focus for long periods of time. Prior to Barack's entrance into our lives, that focus had largely been on one thing: bicycles. |
