| It all began in the mid-1970 s whenGene Griessman was hosting a publicaffairs program for a TV station in Atlanta(owned by Ted Turner and soon to be-come WTBS, the "SuperStation ). Thegoal was to find out what made famouspeople famous-from the famous peoplethemselves. The program was "Up Close"and from this enviable platform,Griessman conducted interviews withsome of the most important musicians,politicians, scientists, religious leaders,businessmen, celebrities, and sportsstars of our time. Among them: DavidRockefeller, Tennessee Williams, HankAaron, Bear Bryant, Ray Charles, AaronCopland, Gloria Swanson, CharlesSchulz, and Ronald Reagan. In 1982, Griessman went to Geor-gia Tech and continued the interviewsfor newspapers and magazines, talkingwith such notables as Jacques Cousteau,B.F. Skinner, Herbert Simon, SandraDay O Connor, Francis Crick, JulieAndrews, and Jack Lemmon. Analyzing the varying responses,Griessman discoverd certain patternsemerging.
