| Chapter OneAwakeningThe pain was excruciating. It had begun with a dull ache centered inher lower back, but now the ache had intensified. It radiated outward,threatening to block her intention of staying focused. Whether lying inher arbor or standing and dancing toward the tree, nothing changedthe intensity of the pain. Nothing she did alleviated the throbbing,pulsing waves. What was this pain all about? She didn't have a backproblem. She thought about her life and remembered that the onlytimes she had ever experienced back pain were when she had beeneight or nine months pregnant. It wasn't her kidneys. They had toldher in the medical tent that, although her kidneys were weak afterthirty-six hours of dry fasting, they were working. |
