Stowers concentrates on concepts (the shrinking dollar， the power of compounding interest， and the hidden risks of conservative investments) rather than techniques (e.g.， how to pick stocks， how to construct a budget). Numerous cartoons， charts， and tales of personal experience add life to the dry subject matter. Though Stowers's opinions about the superiority of earnings over dividends， the folly of market timing， and the small investor's need for actively managed stock mutual funds are debatable， the book is not merely an advertisement for Stowers's fund. It is odd， given the title， that almost no space is devoted to increasing one's earning power.
