| THIS book had its inception in an outline orscenario for a motion picture drama dealing withthe hardy Indians inhabiting northern BritishColumbia. I submitted the scenario to my friendRobert Stuart Pigott, who urged that it be putinto book form and that the deelamatory style ofthe tribal bards be followed. Pigott is respon-sible for the suggestion ; I am guilty of its exeeu-ti0n; and we mutually have a deep affeetion forthe little book. It is the outcome of one of thoserare friendships which tend to make life worthliving. In the working out of the photo drama andthe book, there came to he slight differenees be-tween the two; but in the main they are thesame, and both give a glimpse of the primitiveAmericans as they lived in the Stone Age andas they were still living when the hardy explorersPerez, Heeeta, Quadra, Cook, Meares, and Van-eouver touched the shores of the Pacific between |
