| The first year ofa completely changed life can be the best orthe worst of a man s lifetime. My first year as a Christian wasboth. I was 33 years old when I first walked into a church building as a believer. I carried with me a lot of personal baggage in the form of a sinful past. The next three years were spent search- ing within the church to understand a way of life that was totally foreign to me. What I found many times surprised me. At other times it shocked me. Most of all, those three years taught me to trust God. The purpose of this book is to discuss what I and otheradults discover within the church when we become Christianslater in life. The first three years are a period of transition. They are the most crucial years for the new Christian, becausehe is led in either the right or wrong direction by individualswithin the church. It is my intention to address not only those who are experi-encing their infant years within the church, but also those whowant to nurture these young Christians. A person like myselfwho accepts Christ in his late twenties or thirties sees thechurch from an entirely different perspective than the indi-vidual who was raised in the church and accepted Christ at ayoung age. That s why I call people like me Transition Chris-tians. We see the world and the church differently, and we arealso viewed differently by those who have been reared in thechurch. It is my prayer that this book will help the new believer intransition and the "old-timer" in the church to better under-stand each other s thoughts and needs. |
