About This Book This book is organized into five sections. In the first four sections, we are going to explain computer sys- tems to you. Notice that we used the phrase computer system instead of just computer. That s because any useful computer setup consists of more than just the basic computer. It takes many accessories to make the whole thing work, and we re going to tell you all about those, too. Our explanations will be given with an eye towards your actual purchase of a computer system. At the end of the first four sections, we will recap what you ve learned and give you some pointers on what to do when you walk into that computer store to buy a computer. The last section of this book is a glossary that con- tains definitions of words and phrases that will be in- troduced in the rest of the book. That is not to say that we won t explain these new terms as we introduce them, but the glossary will serve as a handy reference in case you forget what something means. When a new phrase or word is first introduced in this book, it will be printed in boldface like this: buzzword. You have probably heard the term \"buzzword\" many times before. It refers to a word that has some mysti- cal meaning, at least as far as computer people are concerned. Buzzwords really don t have any special
