Control Techniques
Techniques that will help you make exhibition-quafity prints from hard-to-print
negatives by controlling ~e contrast so that both the highlight and shadow
areas will print with a full range of detail and tones. The techniques them-
selves do not show on the final print; they are used during or after the printing
to improve the appearance of the picture.

The resulting highlights were given extra exposure to darken them during
the printing. Giving additional exposure to selected areas of a print， which is
called printing in or burning in， can turn a good picture into a great one.
