| When I introduced Aerobics as a new concept of exercise,my chief aim was to counterac.t the problems of lethargyand inactivity which are so prevalent in America. There-fore, my first book was mainly a motivational book, butalso it was an attempt to encourage people to examinemore closely the benefits to be gained from regular exer-cise. The wide public acceptance of AEROBICS indicatesthat these objectives have been at least partially achieved. The present volume serves a different purpose. As aresult of the comments from people in all walks of lifeand the accumulation of vast amounts of new data, it hasbeen possible to prepare a book which discusses in greatdetail the specific requirements for safely and effectivelyentering an age-adjusted exercise program. For this reasonI hope that the faithful follower of AEROBICS as well asthe unconditioned beginner will find this sequel to AERO-BICS both interesting and challenging. Because of theexpanded range of exercise options, the adjustment forage, and the comprehensive data tables, I also hope thatphysical educators and medical personnel concerned withexercise will find this book useful in supervising physicalconditioning programs. I think of this book as an Aerobicshandbook or Aerobics guidelines. Whether this book is used as an individual exerciseguide or as a professional reference work, it is my pro-found hope as a physician that it will serve its readers asa key to health and well-being.J |
