| Here s how it works: T.F.H. Publications was started in 1947 by Dr. Herbert R. Axelrod. As ascience faculty member of New York University, he was one of the firstconservationists, warning students as well as the pet industry that it wasnecessary to protect the environment and to conserve our wildlife. Dr. Axelrodwrote and TFH published many of his books and books by other authors, dealingwith the proper selection, care and breeding of all kinds of pet and laboratoryanimals. Soon (1960) TFH became the largest and most successful publisher ofpet and animal books in the world. In 1990, Dr. Axelrod retired and in 1991 he started the Dr. HerbertR. AxelrodFoundation, a Non-profit Corporation. He dedicated the resources in this fundto buying land in Brazil (and, perhaps, other places) for conservation and study,prohibiting all kinds of exploitation of the living things, fossils and space on theland. The land, fossils and other specimens of natural history would be turnedover to major institutions like the American Museum of Natural History, theSmithsonian Institution, the University of Guelph, as well as to Brazilianinstitutions of higher learning.
