| The stories in this book come from many parts of the world. Some ofthe stories report events that really happened. Others are tales aboutstrange events that somebody, someplace, said happened. The truthof some of these weird tales would be hard to prove. Yet, people lovemysteries and that is what Weird and Mysterious is about. It containsarticles about mysterious, believe-it-or-not happenings all over theworld. The book is divided into four units. Unit I is called "Ghosts andSpirits." Here you will read about the ghost that haunts the WhiteHouse, the ghost of a Voodoo leader, and a ghost that was actuallyphotographed. In Unit 2 you will read about "Creatures: Real andImagined." Some of the creatures have been seen by people but nevercaptured or examined; others are real animals that have strangehabits. In Unit 3 you will be taken on "Adventures into theUnknown" and will read about places like Zimbabwe (the lost city inAfrica) and people like Cinque, who captured a slave ship. In Unit 4you are told of "The Powers of Mind, Medicine, and Magic." Youwill read about fire walkers, medicine men, and people like Hou-dini. Following each story are activities that will help you sharpenyour thinking and improve your reading. Skill building exerciseswill help you develop your vocabulary and writing ability. |
