I4 Life Maps First Presentation: Jim Fowler* Life/Faith Patterns: Structures of Trust & Loyalty As an introduction to this perspective I would like to sha~ with you three vignettes, without any particular comraen upon them at this time. These stories should both give y0I some clue as to part of my background and also share some thing of why and how I became interested in studying faith development. Vignette number one: My father is a Methodist minister. We lived in various towns and communities in western North Carolina as I was growing up. Just after the war, when I w~ about five, we moved into the mountains in the far westen part of that state, to a little community called Spruce Pin where feldspar and mica were mined. During the war thet community had been quite prosperous because of the big] demand for those products in wartime production. My fathet~ worked not only in Spruce Pine, but also with missi0n~ churches way out in the mountains in places called Bandanna]~ and Kona. t As a boy of five or six I loved to go with my father on hill pastoral calls.
