PREFACE In the late sixties an enormous proliferation of interest and imagery around the concern of Christians for social change became evident, A new book dealing with \"the revolntion in theology\" or \" theology for the rev01u. tion,\" with puliticking as a theological concern or with theology as a political event appeared almost every week, Despite some overlapping both in language and in substance, the present publication is not to be under- stood as arising out of or catering to the faddist ap- proach to theology which most of this rhetoric repre- sents. Some of the material included here was first written well before this fad arose, and it is being pre- pared for publication in the relaxed confidence that by the time the book can reach the market its title will no longer be in style. There is a growing awareness in churches and sem- inaries that the problem of war is at the heart of much of the sickness of modern society, and a growing rec- ognition that the traditional Christian approaches to this problem, namely the just war and the crusade, are becoming increasingly inadequate as sources of moral guidance and are beginning to look as if they never i
