0000000000000000000000000000 GUIDE DES I~TUDIANTS Outside of class, you will work primarily with two components of the ,J veux bien!,, program-- the Manuel de preparation and the Student Tape. The Manuel de preparation contains vocabulary review exercises as well as grammatical presentations accompanied by self-correcting exercises and quizzes. In addition, you ll find reading, writing, and (occasionally) listening activities. The Student Tape contains model phrases and sentences for each grammatical structure as well as more formal work with pronunciation. In addition, you ll find any listening activity that you re asked to do outside of class. Throughout the Manuel de preparation you ll notice a series of A faire! notes that serve to cross- reference the Manuel de classe, the Manuel de preparation, and the Student Tape. As homework for the next class session, your instructor will usually direct you to do all (or occasionally, some) of an A faire! assignment. Here are some typical A faire! notes with some suggestions about how to go about doing the work assigned. A faire! (I-4) Manuel de classe, pages 29-31 As a follow-up to the learning of vocabulary in class, read page 28 in the Manuel de classe and do Exercise X below. In preparation for in-class work, do the following: * read the explanation of regular -er verbs/page 30) and the Note grammaticale (page 33); ~ .-Z~7~ listen to SEGMENT 6 of your Student Tape ; ~ do Exercises XI, XII, and XIII; ~ take Test 4. This is a two-part assignment. The first part reviews the vocabulary presented in class. Before writing out the vocabulary exercise (Exercise X), you should look over the page(s) in the Manuel de classe where this vocabulary is presented (and often listed). The second part of the assignment introduces a new grammatical topic (in this case, how to conjugate verbs ending in -er). You should first read over the explanation, making sure you understand what the grammatical topic is about. In this case, there is also a Note grammaticale that provides information on how to make these verbs negative. Before writing the exercises, listen to Segment 6 of the Student Tape. Here you ll be able to listen to and repeat the verb forms as well agosome model sentences (including those of the sample dialogue at the beginning of the grammatical explanation). It s very important, especially in the early chapters of the book, that you work conscientiously with the Student Tape. Otherwise, you run the risk of falling into some very bad pronunciation habits. When you feel you know how to pronounce the new structures, then do the exercises that will help you learn how to use them. Remember to correct them (the answers are at the back of the Manuel de preparation). If you find you re making lots of mistakes, go back \"and reread the explanation. Finally, take and correct the short grammar test. If you follow these steps, you should be very well prepared to go to class the next day. Chapi/re prdliminaire 3
