Binh Dinh Province, Vietnam Glover watched the serpent coiling around his calf. The snake was small--hardly two feet in length--but it was a krait viper, a bamboo two-step. Being struck by its fangs left the victim two minutes to live, if he were still and silent--like Glover was now--or thirty seconds, if he was on his feet, exerting himself, humping through the heat-smothered, tropical countryside, heart thumping and pumping to the rhythm of The Nam.
