| Some months ago, before the publication ofBishop Richard Wilke s book, And Are We Yet Alive?,the editors at Abingdon Press asked me to write abasic, practical book on doing evangelism in the localchurch. The wide acceptance and excitementcreated by the bishop s book increased my ownexcitement and made me believe that those of us inThe United Methodist Church are ready to takeseriously the mandate to be evangelists. The model of evangelism described in these pageshas evolved during the last sixteen years of myministry.
