| I have found the book The Diabetes Fact Book (formerly TheGood Life--with Diabetes) very interesting and I know that it hasbeen valuable to thousands of diabetics in the Philadelphia areaand throughout the United States. The book is practical and easyto read; the various divisions of subjects are set out clearly and Ifeel that it is instructive to the physicians as well as their patients. While I am not a clinician, I have been interested in diabetesfor a very long time--actually since 1915, when my diabetic aunt,a trained nurse, came to live with us. She was treated with theAllen undernutrition regimen, and, of course, lost a lot of weight;she died in diabetic coma in 1918. That was one of the factorswhich made me decide to do research in diabetes. If insulin and allthe other aspects of diabetic control as set out in The DiabetesFact Book had been available, she might have been alive today. My wife and I celebrated our golden wedding anniversary and wehave heard from our friends around the world, including manydiabetics. Some of them have lived for over fifty years on insulinand we hope that the brilliant new researchers will insure thatmany more will be able to do so. I feel that the new edition of this book will help everyone whoreads it to avoid the complications, to live longer, and to have ahappier life. |
