It seems children of all ages， including grown-up ones， like dolls and stuffed animals. They re
often so appealing that somehow we can t resist picking them up or even hugging them. For
this book I have designed many stuffed toys of all sizes (including dolls both big and little) that
are not only fun to admire， own， and play with， but fun to make.
All the toys in this book are knitted and then finished and dressed with various fabrics and
trims. Some of the clothes are \"knit-on\" as you go; others are added later. Only the simplest of
knitting stitches are used， so the toys are as easy to make for a beginning knitter as for an
experienced one. Many grandmothers and aunts who would love to make a new bear， doll， or
bunny for a favorite child would doubtless also be happy to share their knitting know-how with
beginners. How much fun it would be for a little girl to learn to knit by making her own new
doll!
The yarns I have used are easily obtained acrylics of knitting worsted size. Since only small
amounts are needed (especially small for the smaller toys)， the person who knits regularly will
probably have enough left-over yarn to make almost everything. If this isn t the case or if you re
a beginner， ask around--your friends may be glad to share their leftovers with you. Fabric， felt，
and trims are likewise needed only in the quantities that may be found in most sewing baskets.
This is a good opportunity to be imaginative and use up whatever is available. If you must buy
yarn and materials， the cost will not be high if you take advantage of sales or buy remnants.
Remember that the materials and yam will go a long way， and this helps to keep the costs to a
minimum.
So， please， go ahead， pick out your favorite and try it. You ll be surprised how easy it is to
knit these toys and how quickly you re finished. There s something here for everyone: little cats
and dogs， soft bunnies for babies， little bears for little boys， sweet dolls for sweet little girls---
toys to please everyone. Just watch the smiles appear when you give one to your favorite child.
These toys are sturdy enough to be really played with. The little dolls and bears can even be
