| When my great, great, great grandfather acquired the brewery in Dublin in1759 be could not have foreseen that his own brewer3, would one day besetting world records. Still less it could not have occurred to him that hisGuinness brewing company would one day create and publish a GuinnessRecord Book. Both these things have happened. The brewery grew as the reputation of itsprincipal product grew, spreadmg first across Ireland, then across the IrishSea to England and finally around thc world. The dark. creamy blew wasoriginally known as Guinness s Extra Stout Porter; Eater it became GuinnessExtra Stout. Guinness Stout. or often nowadays.justplan Guinness. Thoughit may have been known by different names+ the essenjual recipe and thequahty have not changed with is possibly why Guinncss can now bebought and enjoyed in141 countries around the world. That may be a recordin itself. 1 do not know: what we an know is thai the Dubhn Brewery in the1920 s was the largest in the world and although the brewery has since beenovertaken in sheer size, we note with some pride that there are now Guinnessbreweries in England, Nigeria. MalaysiaCameroon. Ghana and Jamaica. It is 224 years since the first Guinness Stout was created by my ancestorThe Record Book is a youngster by comparison it has just passed its 29thbirthday.
