| This introductory text is aimed at undergraduate students of development economics who want their study to be augmented by real-world and applied material. All standard topics in economic development are covered. Modern interest in economic development dates from the 1940s and this book traces the unfolding ideas on economic development, their impact on policy and the consequences of development strategies. Unifying themes are policy choices between industry and agriculture and between open and closed trade strategies. By providing numerous case studies the book also emphasizes the diversity of developing countries.
