"The concept of advanced study assignments is wonderful.""...an excellent lab manual."--This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

    内容简介

A step-by-step introduction to the key principles of general chemistry for undergraduate students, this laboratory manual, tested by more than one million students over the past 25 years, is a valuable tool to understand the experimental side of the course. Its 42 experiments each contain introductory discussions and whilst geared toward the introductory level chemistry course, encourage individual student analysis as an important approach to learning. Features: * Specific, step-by-step procedures for each of the experiments allow the student to reach the intended results if directions are followed appropriately. * Advance Study Assignments make it easier for students to calculate the results from their experimental data. * The complete Instructor s Manual details the experiments needed chemicals and apparatuses. New to this edition: * New experiments have been added, including Determining a Chemical Formula, Finding the Barometric Pressure, Identifying a Compound Using Mass Relationships and Analysis for Vitamin C. * Revised experiments include pH and the Properties of Buffers, Molar Mass Determination by Depression of Freezing Point, Purification by Fractional Crystallization, and Heat Effects and Calorimetry. * Two Optional Microscale Procedures involving Alkaline Earths and the Halogen and Complex Ions of Cu (II) have also been incorporated. (No new instrumentation is needed.) * Two new appendices have been added, inluding Making Measurements and Laboratory Techniques and Mathematical Considerations and Making Graphs. * Rougly one-third of the text has been revised.

Emil J. Slowinski is an Emeritus DeWitt Wallace Professor of Chemistry at Macalester College. His degrees are a B.S. from Massachusetts State College in 1946, and a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1949. He taught at Swarthmore College, 1949-1952, the University of Connecticut, 1952-1964, and Macalester College, 1964-1988. His sabbatical leaves were at Oxford University in 1960, and the University of Warsaw in 1968. He is a co-author, with Bill Masterton and/or Wayne Wolsey, of over 25 books on various areas of general chemistry. He is currently retired, but has continued his writing with new editions of the laboratory manual.--This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
