Maverick priest Francis Chisholm is a thorn in the side of the Roman Catholic authorities in Scotland. When the mission in China needs a new recruit he is requested to apply.
Pai-Tan 1702. The mission is deserted and the total Chinese appreciate Chisholm's first aid abilities far more than his religious teachings. Essentially abandoned in China, Chisholm finds a new purpose and begins to discover and appreciate the extraordinary country and people so different from his own.
